‘Cinco, man, where have you been my whole NFL season?

It took nine weeks but you finally came alive, in a game and in the media.

It was great how you predicted the Bengals will go 8-8. Heck, Coach Lewis challenged you to do it after the game in the locker room, when he gave you that “playing for ourselves” speech.

But you crack me up, man, and I love having you in the league. But, don’t forget, it was just one win.

To: Rex Grossman

Re: Ever notice how your name sounds like something Bart Simpson would say?

I have news for you: You do not have a beard.

I think you have to have a beard to be successful in Chicago. Look at Orton. He’s got a killer beard.

This is your big chance though. You could be trying out for a contract with Minnesota, Detroit, or San Francisco.

To: Brett Favre

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re: Eh

Brett, I feel like I should let out a sigh of disappointment each time I say your name.

I saw that joke from a mile away. Heck, I was thinking about using it and then you said it.

You joked, at the post-game conference, that your one touchdown pass was not for your team. And then you laughed. I did too.

Is it just me, or have your post-game comments become more like a scene from The Comedy of Errors ? All this “win’s a win” stuff and the smirking.

I can tell you really enjoy this.

To: Tyler Thigpen

Re: Kansas City Wildcat!

Your touchdown catch was easily my favorite play from Sunday.

I just imagined you racing down the sideline hoping that receiver throws the ball close because you had to make that catch.

You went after that ball like a man that thinks he might lose his job.

To: DeAngelo Hall

Re: Second Thoughts?

If I can, just for a second, give you a piece of advice.

Don’t talk. Just play the game.

You’re the phrase “your mouth writes checks…” personified.

Never mind all that Deion talk and that time against Steve Smith.

You said you’d put your $70 million deal up as collateral against Vick getting in trouble again were he allowed back in the league.

That’s probably not such a good idea now. I heard Davis is going to cut you.

To: Mike Singletary

Re: How to get people’s attention

How can you be upset that your dropping trou’ routine wouldn’t get leaked to the media?

Man, If I’d been there, I’d have been on the text while it was happening.

To: John Deere

Re: Official Sponsor

Mr. Deere, I’ve got this idea for you.

I checked out your site, and you are not a sponsor or “the official tractor of…” with the NFL.

This is a great opportunity. That John Deere gator takes so many players off the field. Think of the names you’ve carried away: Tom Brady and really any star player that’s seriously injured in a game.

It’s like a 360 degree endorsement. You’re working with the NFL, and the biggest names in the game are endorsing you by riding in the back like a bale of straw.

To: Vince Wilfork

Re: Evidence

Your wife produced a video for Goodell that showed you did not use unnecessary roughness. That video kept you playing.

The Pats film team came through in the clutch again!

To: Chris Berman

Re: Cand(i-?-yes-i-can)idates

You did a pretty good job with the two candidates on Monday night.

But McCain stole the show. His goofiness may have just lost him this election.

Quoting you with the “going, going…” bit and speaking of himself, as a young man, as a rebel without a cause.

For a split second, I just knew he was going to say “maverick without a cause.”

To: Byron Leftwich

Re: Immobilarity

I think you’re officially a “game manager.”

You didn’t do anything to lose the game Monday, and you actually made a play for a score. According to one of the TV guys, you’re a “solid backup.”

Well, I remember you in Atlanta last year, so I don’t know about that, but you did your job on Monday night.

What’s more impressive is that you were only sacked twice. We’ve seen how bad that line is, and we all know you’re the least mobile quarterback in the league.

To: Lane Kiffin

Re: Hate to say…

Man, I can almost hear you saying “I told you so…”

this show that comes on on thursday nights on nbc, where er used to be? pretty interesting. while the show sometimes seems a little amatuerish, the ideas behind them are really great.

tonights show just started and the idea behind it is creepy as hell. the guy dies in a car crash and he sees his family through a window, and they’re all in the waiting room, waiting, you know….worried as hell. and they can’t see hiim or hear him. kind of heartbreaking. is that really what happens? how terrifying is that?

then the dude driving the truck that killed him walks by and tells him to come with him because they’re dead. obviously the good dude doesn’t believe it, so he follows him.

you walk in and see everyone frozen in time and they walk back into one of the trauma rooms and there they are, together being worked and basically dead on the table.

suddenly the guy wakes up and his soul is in the body of the other guy. that’s pretty twisted on quite a few levels. i’m curious to see what happens.

the guy is in jail. he’s having to deal with all the shit this guy did all of his life, some seriously bad things. i mean, he could tell the entire life story of he and his wife, in his other life, and they’d never believe him.

get this, the story turns for the worse. the dead guy he killed, didn’t die. yep, you guessed it. he’s alive and kicking it with his family.

bad soul in good dude’s body says he wants the guy in jail to help him get along on the “outside” and he’ll help him get along on the “inside.” oh man, the thought of that chills me up and makes me want to go nuts. can you imagine that? and he’s the only connection to your family so of course you want to continue to talk to him. but damn, that sucks…

(“it’s not tv, it’s birth control.” what a great phrase for a show. this show about teenagers borrowing babies because they think parenting is what they want and that “it’s easy.” man, i can’t wait. they’ll show ‘em…they don’t know shit.

man, bad soul in good dude’s body seems to actually kind of hate good dude’s life. i mean, he actually has a to be a “good” guy and he has no clue. church, man, he had to go to church. holmes was the loudest guy in the audience. i mean, singing loud. he also tries to chase down the retarded kid at church when he was taking the kids for donuts. (i didn’t get that either–why is a retarded kid taking his kids for donuts?)

oh snap, the good soul in bad dude’s body, calls the house and tries to talk to his daughter and then his wife. my man bad soul in good dude’s body is going to change the number. go figure…

the weird thing is they actually start to council each other on how to get by.

so of course bad dude tries to start a fight when this guy comes through and steals his parking spot. he’s seriously going to be asshole enough to break up this guy’s family.

damn and then the end. i’ll keep the end to myself, but man, it rips your heart to shreds…

so i hate golf. i mean i despise it. it’s kind of crazy because of that that a golf job was the first job i ever had. crazy. i worked at a damn golf course.

this was a crappy job in the - don’t-do-shit-really-but-this-job-still-kind-of-sucks-when-you’re-15 kind of way. you know what i’m talking abbout. well anyway, i had to park the carts in front of the clubhouse. i had to bring them from this garage where they were charged and line 7 in row up front.

i had to always make sure there were 7 out there.

so i just ran my ass off running these carts out there. when one came in you washed it off and backed, yes backed, it in.

i mean there could 8 carts deep in a row…that’s how far back. you were scared shitless because you were going backwards and you still hadn’t quite figured out that opposite-is-right backwards steering thing. so anyway, that was hard…sometimes you’d run into a cart and hope not much damage was done. sometimes damage was done and you hoped nile, the boss, didnt notice. when the carts came in you had to clean all the shit out of them. i mean there were bags of old food–half-eaten chicken wings kind of stuff. and the beer…damn they drank a LOT. i mean these were like big-time in-the-church guys.

anyway..

i also rotated over to the driving range. where i had to drive this huge contraption that picked all the balls up.

It sucked.

you get what i’m implying and before you say “but you had a cage on it,” no i didn’t. yes, i got hit. it did, really, hurt.

during the week it seems that i mostly changed the trash cans at every hole and picked up pine cones. you can see the level of trust i’d earned. so one day, it was time for a “project.” i had to lay pine straw and plant some flowers at this little section by like the 3rd hole.

well, i did it. i did it as well as i knew how. see, what i’ve learned in my career as a “manager of people” is that sometimes you have to coach someone and let them know how to do something and provide feedback in the process. no, i got none of that. so i did as well as i knew how. i guess i also forgot to clean out the cart when i took it back up to the little shed area. so the next day my buddy will tells me how shitty that was of me.

“what” i say? he’s like….nile was pissed about the job you did with that pine straw up there. and not only that you brought back the cart with pine straw and dirt and shit all over. stan (the grounds mgr kind of guy) was pissed and he chewed us out all morning. we had to clean it up before we took it out. i’m like, wow, i didn’t really realize it was done so poorly. so i’m kind of worried about going to work that afternoon. i get there and i’m doing something, like picking up cigarette butts out of the front shrubery. and i see nile walking up. i’m thinking here it commes…..and i’m like, i was scared about it, because i knew it was coming, and I knew it would be the kinf of situation that i’d never dealt with before… but i mean, i was 15….it was just a shitty job. what did i care, right? so he comes up to me and tells me one of the guys from college was coming back to town and he didn’t have room on his team right now for me. this guy, the kid from college, knew the course well, nile said, and he could help out the guys a lot. he looks at me as his says this last bit.

i’ll never forget looking at him and it’s like right out a movie. he’s squiting a bit and his head is sorta in front of and around the sun so it’s hard to see his face that well. the guy actually had his hands held together, as if he were either wringing them, and gritting his teeth not wanting to chew me a new one and wasn’t because he knew my dad real well, or he was holding them together to show graciousness.

and my 15 yr old mind is just like, dude, just say it. he says, i’m going to let brian come back. i didn’t know he’d be coming back when i hired you. i’m going to have to let you go since you were the most recently hired.

i said, okay. kind of solemnly. and i turned around and walked away.
